Seeds and pits have to be good for you, no? You just take that bitter-tasting pit, grind it up, and BOOM an abundance of vitamins and minerals. Well…… There was a review conducted by D. Dabas et al., in 2013 that examined the contents in a dried ground BITTER avocado pit. Now they found out hey it may have some health benefits, but they don’t know if this pit has any health benefits and won’t cause you harm.
We gotta send people back to the drawing board to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks. For us all to be safe to determine if there is anything harmful hidden in that seed. Sadly, we just don’t know yet. SO for now, enjoy the avocado “meat” and throw that pit in the compost.
Also, as amazing as avocados are, our food system is impacted by its inelastic demand for a healthy fat. Unfortunately, within Mexico, drug-related violence has infiltrated the avocado business-impacting many avocado farmers. Please, when shopping make note of where you buy that avocado from.
